    My Digital Product Journey

    My online journey started in 2018 while working in the corporate Marketing world. After launching my side hustle offering Online Marketing Services, I quickly noticed that many of my clients struggled with the same problem – finding the time and resources to create and market their products and services effectively.

    That’s when I got the idea to offer Canva templates and digital product kits to help busy service providers design beautiful and strategic graphics to wow their clients and customers.

    So I launched my Template Shop in May 2020 🎨 and started selling digital products. I always enjoyed designing and creating and with Canva on the rise there was finally a way to easily share those designs with others.

    As mentioned, I targeted Service Providers at first but quickly expanded into other niches and products as well slowly but surely adding more and more products.

    2021 was my first entirely digital product-based income year (no 1:1 services)!

    The beauty of digital products is that you only have to make them once and can sell them as many times as you’d like! So let’s dive into creating your own digital product business.

    1. Choose your Digital Product Type

    It all starts with an idea. What could you sell and to whom?

    Here are some ideas to get you started. Use or combine some of these products for your own unique digital product idea:

    2. Validate your Product Idea

    You can use some or all of these methods to validate your product idea and find out what content and solution your ideal customer might want.

    • Send a survey to your email list to find out what their problems and pain points are.
    • Conduct a Market Research Call (15-20 min) with your ideal client and ask them directly about their problems and pain points
    • Use Instagram – Research hashtags, follow competitors, use polls, or surveys
    • Use Pinterest Trends and Google Trends to find out what’s trending and successfully selling for others
    • Join Facebook groups (pick some where your ideal customers hang out) and see what kind of questions they’re asking or what problems and issues they’re sharing.
    • Use Quora, AskThePublic or Reddit to find topics your audience is most interested in learning about.

    3. Outline your Digital Product Content

    Before you can create your product you need to set up your framework. How can your digital product get your customer from A (where they are now) to B (their desired end result)? How will you structure your content to get them there?

    Outline each of your key concepts and describe them in more detail.

    Your Product Suite

    In order to fill up your shop, you want to have multiple digital products for your customers to choose from. Create a product suite of related products that compliment each other and guide your customer to the next step.

    Keep your shop up to date and add new products frequently. That way you add credibility and trust to your shop and offer your customers a chance to buy from you again and again.

    4. Create your Digital Product

    There is a variety of tools you can use to create your digital products – Photoshop, Google Drive, InDesign, Keynote, Canva and so many others.

    Canva is an easy-to-use design tool that will make anyone look like a design pro. You can create pretty much any digital product you can think of with Canva! Graphics, templates, course presentations, brochures, eBooks, workbooks, websites, prints, etc.

    While the free version of Canva has tons of features, design elements and templates you can really step up your design game with the paid Canva Pro Version.

    Their paid subscription offers amazing additional features such as access to premium photos and elements, a one-click background remover, the resizing and Brand Kit features or the ability to organize your designs by creating unlimited folders.

    5. Design your Product Listing Images

    Create your product listing images to grab your buyer’s attention. Highlight any relevant information and product features. Your product images are super important. In fact, you should put (almost) as much effort into your listing images as in the product itself. Some things to keep in mind:

    • Get the image sizing right – every platform has unique requirements
    • Include relevant product info and text on the image (you can use the same text from your product description)
    • Keep your image background clutter-free
    • Use Mockups to showcase your products and help your customer visualize how they can be used. They will make your listing look more professional and three dimensional

    6. Deliver your Digital Product

    If you’re creating a non-editable end product such as a Printable, Guide or eBook, you will have to save your product as a PDF and upload this PDF to your delivery software. Once your customer purchases the product, they will receive access to this PDF and can download it.

    If you’re selling a fillable digital product such as a workbook, you’ll save your product as a PDF and make it fillable with tools such as PDF Escape. After downloading the PDF your customers can fill it out right on their computer without having to print it.

    Sharing Editable Template Products

    If you want to share an editable template that you’ve created in Canva, you can give customers access to your design by sharing your template link.

    1. Select  Share from the menu bar above the editor.
    2. Choose the “Template Link” optopn (with this link anyone can use your design as a template).
    3. Select Copy to copy the link.

    This is the link you’ll need to share with your customers so they can make a copy of your template design.

    7. Sell your Digital Products

    Once you finish creating your digital product you will need to choose a platform to host and deliver it. There are a few different options to sell your products:

    • Your own shop or website (e.g. WooCommerce, SendOwl, Shopify)
    • Marketplaces (e.g. Etsy, Creative Market)
    • Third Party Software (e.g. MemberVault, Thinkific)


    Use this free plugin to run your digital product shop if you have a WordPress website. Set up your store information and payment gateways and WooCommerce automatically creates all other pages for you (Shop, Cart, Checkout, and My Account). Just add your products and start selling!

    8. Market your Digital Products

    There are so many different ways to drive traffic to your shop and share your products with the world. Here are some of my favorites:

    • Create Pins to promote your products and content related to your products on Pinterest.
    • Add related products, upsells, and cross sells to your WooCommerce product pages to increase sales
    • Create a lead magnet or freebie to grow your email list and get potential customers into your funnel
    • Consider tripwire offers
    • Sell on well-established marketplaces such as Etsy while you’re growing your own audience. Marketplaces are trustworthy and well-established with a pre-existing audience to buy your products. They also handle all the transactions and payments for you.

  • How I use MemberVault to grow my Business

    As some of you may know, I’m obsessed with MemberVault and use it for all things passive income (hosting my freebie hub, my courses and my membership, my template bundles, etc.)

    1. Subscriber Freebie Hub​

    It all starts with your Subscriber Freebie Hub. It allows you to host all of your best free content in one place rather than creating a new product for each of of your lead magnets. 

    Not only is this a great way to grow your email list but it also gives your audience an opportunity to explore your paid products (MemberVault calls this a binge and buy marketplace).

    2. Online Course

    Courses are so fun to set up in MemberVault! You can customize your course details such as type, payment options, teaser content, description, etc. Then break up your content into Modules and Lessons. You can place ANY kind of audio, video, text, or download into MemberVault. After you add your lesson, you can also add downloadable files and quiz questions to boost engagement.

    3. Membership

    MemberVault is a great platform for memberships because it provides you with the ability to track your members’ engagement. This allows you to know who your most engaged members are as well as what areas of your content are of most interest to your members and which are not.

    Their payment integration feature currently gives the option for one-time, recurring monthly, recurring weekly, and recurring yearly payments  – which is also perfect for hosting a paid membership site or group.

    4. Canva Templates

    You can host any type of digital product or template in MemberVault such as Canva Template Bundles. I love designing an exclusive experience vs. just giving my customers a lame access link to the template directly. You can turn a simple template into a “course” experience.

    In the example below I created 3 modules:

    1. A welcome module with general information (FAQ’s, Instructions, Licensing, etc.)
    2. The main module with download buttons to access the templates and a detailed User Guide.
    3. A bonus module with even more resources and some other suggested products.

    4. Coaching Calls

    Create a resource area for your coaching clients. MemberVault is perfect to share call scheduling details, upload call recordings, or to share any recommended books and resources with your clients. You can set up individual products for each client, or a collective product for all of your 1:1 clients. 

    5. Client Onboarding

    Make your 1:1 clients feel extra special with an onboarding area full of things they need to know about working with you. You can upload contracts for your client to sign, record special welcome videos, compile resources and more! Again, you can set up individual products for each client, or a collective product for all of your 1:1 clients. 

    6. Discovery Call Booking Option

    If you offer discovery calls for your 1:1 service or coaching program you can add this as a product in MemberVault as well. Simply link out to either your discovery call schedule link, or your application process (such as a Google Survey or a TypeForm application).

    7. Feedback and Support

    MemberVault makes it easy to get testimonials and feedback by giving the option to add quiz questions to each lesson. You can use those questions to give the user an open-ended way to respond to questions such as “What was your biggest takeaway?”or “What would have made your experience better?” You can read and reply to the quiz answers right in your dashboard. So easy and effective.

    Digital Products are booming right now and they can be a highly profitable way to earn money online. You may have noticed that I’m selling quite a few digital products myself 🙂 Making passive income with digital products can be a great additional income stream for all kinds of product and service providers.     What I love about Digital Products

    • No need to coordinate logistics, shipping, quality issues, etc. – your customer downloads your product and has immediate access
    • You can only offer so many 1:1 services – digital products are a great way to scale your business 
    • Source of passive income – More time to focus on growing other aspects of your business while your digital product is selling in the background
    • You only have to create your product once and sell it as many times as you want
    • As long as your digital product serves your target audience in some way it will work for any niche
    • Digital Products are a great “entry product” to funnel your customers into higher-priced offers and services


    10 Profitable Digital Products Ideas

    Without further ado, here is a summary of the top digital products you need for your business. I also included some recommendations, tools, and resources to make your digital product creation and selling process super easy 🙂

    1. eBooks

    eBooks are not only a great paid product but also make excellent lead magnets or free resources to grow your list or funnel your customers into your paid products or services. Maybe you already have the content (like a blog full of posts and long-form content) that you can repurpose and structure into an eBook. eBooks should include useful and actionable content and work best if you incorporate supporting visuals, stats, or quotes.

    2. Online Course

    Package up your knowledge into an online course! Your course will likely be a mix of different content formats. A combination of videos, slides (presentation to follow along), and screencasts (recording your screen) is the most popular way to create course content but there are many other formats such as worksheets, audio files (e.g. for meditations), or text. There is a bit of planning and creating involved – research, content outline, design assets, record videos, launch plan, etc. – but courses can be very profitable and work for any niche.

    If you’re unsure about your course topic or audience you can always create a mini-course. Just focus on one specific outcome and create shorter actionable lessons and resources. Keeping your course as simple as possible while still getting your students their desired results is key.

    3. Workbooks and Guidebooks

    A workbook is another great option that’s easy to put together. Add lessons, prompts, exercises, or short explanations to each page followed by space for your audience to engage with the content and complete the activities.

    You can also use workbooks and guidebooks to add value to your other products (such as an eBook or online course) as they are a great way for your customers to apply their new skills and knowledge in a practical way.


    4. Printables

    Printables are super popular due to their simplicity – people can simply download and print them out at home. You can create a printable from pretty much anything – planners, habit trackers, coloring books, chore charts, you name it. If you can identify your audience’s pain points you will most likely be able to come up with a printable to help solve them.

    5. Digital Planner

    Digital planners are becoming more and more popular. I’ve been a traditional paper planner advocate forever but I recently discovered the world of digital planning and I’m obsessed!

    A digital planner is an interactive PDF that your customers can upload into apps such as Goodnotes, Noteshelf, or Notability. They include hyperlinked tabs that you can tap to navigate your planner. This makes each page easily accessible without having to flip through the entire planner. Most Digital Planners mimic the look of a traditional planner while offering the simplicity of taking notes, scheduling tasks and projects all in one single app.

    Creating a digital planner design is actually quite simple and there are lots of tutorials out there. I’ve been using KeyNote, a free Apple Program, but you can also use PowerPoint or even Google Slides. 

    If you want to create beautiful digital planners, but stress over the idea of making them from scratch, you need the Digital Planner Template Kit!It includes a digital planner template that you can customize and tutorials to create your planner on different platforms.


    6. Masterclass

    A digital masterclass is an intensive event geared towards solving your customers’ problems in a short period of time (usually 1-3 hrs). You can either make it a one-time event or spread it out over multiple sessions. Participants usually have the opportunity to interact with you directly by asking questions in the chatbox or through a live Q&A session after the class. All you need is a set of slides, a laptop with a screen-sharing ability (so you can share a slide show or do a walkthrough or tutorial in real-time), and possibly an accompanying workbook.

    You can run an online masterclass with free tools like Zoom or Facebook Live but there are also paid options available with more features like Hippo Video.

    After you finish up your Masterclass consider repurposing and repackaging it by turning it into a video, podcast, or bonus material for an online course.


    7. Membership

    A membership is a paid site or area where members get exclusive access to valuable content. They tend to have a recurring monthly payment option but there are also many memberships with quarterly, annual, or lifetime payment options. This also means that you can build a recurring revenue stream as opposed to a one-off payment.

    Memberships usually provide resource-based content such as downloads, coaching calls, and call replays, printables, etc. Keeping people engaged in a membership program can be challenging so you will need to keep your content engaging, valuable and update it frequently.

    8. Design Templates

    Templates are HOT right now! So many business owners are in need of practical and easy-to-use design resources for all their important design projects (from branding to social media to marketing materials). And that’s where Canva comes in! You can create design templates for pretty much anything in Canva (workbooks, logos, media kits, planners, videos, presentations, book covers, etc.).

    When I started selling Canva templates almost two years ago the process was still a bit clunky. Canva has made so many recent updates though that creating and sharing Canva templates has become an absolute breeze:

    1. Share the template link with your customer
    2. Customer downloads a copy of your template
    3. Now they can customize the colors, text, and images with a few easy clicks
    4. They just designed their own graphic assets
    5. Their template can be reused and changed as often as they want to 

    Design templates aren’t just for Canva, you can create them for other programs as well – Photoshop, Dubsado, even PowerPoint, or Word.


    9. Website Templates

    We all know that a professional-looking and functional website is really important. If you have the technical knowledge consider creating WordPress themes or Wix Templates to help bloggers, business owners or service providers design a beautiful online presence. You can also offer single-page templates (like a sales page or opt-in page) if you don’t want to create an entire website theme from scratch. Elementor, a drag and drop tool for WordPress, makes this really easy. 

    This is a bit more on the “techy” side so you’ll most likely have to create detailed installation guides or tutorials to help your customers set this up. You could also offer website customization or theme installation as an upsell or add-on service.

    10. Bundle It Up

    Do more with what you already have! Bundle your Canva designs with a matching website template. Mix and match 3 of your top-selling eBooks on a related topic. Throw in a previous Masterclass recording as a bonus for your new online course. Offer a matching printable planner along with your digital planner… the possibilities are endless.

    Bundles are excellent tools to increase the perceived value to your audience – while using resources you already created!

    Here is an example of my Coaching Business Bundle. I grouped together 4 templates for coaches that I had already created and sold it at a discount ($55 for everything vs. $78 if all the templates are bought separately). It incentivizes the customer to buy more than they may have otherwise (win for me) while saving money (win for them). 


    How to Sell and Deliver your Digital Product

    Once you finish creating your first digital product (wooo!) you will need to choose a platform to host and deliver it. When you first start out, you might only sell a few products so be mindful of monthly fees for bigger platforms (I’m looking at you Kajabi). I suggest you start small and on the more affordable side with one of the options below:


    I currently use MemberVault to host my All Access Pass Template Hub and my Subscriber Bonus Hub. I highly recommend it because I love how engaging, affordable, and user-friendly it is. You can offer pretty much anything through MemberVault – free products, courses, paid products, coaching programs – basically, all of the products mentioned in this post and more!

    WooCommerce is another program I use to run my shop with my WordPress website. So if you already have a website consider installing this free plugin. All you have to do is set up your store information and payment gateways. When you activate WooCommerce it automatically creates the other pages for you (Shop, Cart, Checkout, and My Account). Now you can just click “Add Product” (similar to adding a page or post on WordPress) and start selling!

  • How to Plan, Create, and Launch your first Online Course

    Do you love the idea of creating an online course to generate passive income? Want to make an impact by sharing your knowledge with others? Launching a course doesn’t have to be hard or take forever! In fact, you can do it in two weeks or less by following the steps below.

    This guide will break down course creation step-by-step – from choosing a profitable topic to outlining and developing your course. I will show you all the steps and resources to develop an impactful course.

    Step 1 – Pick a Profitable Topic

    Validate your Course Idea

    To validate your course idea you need 3 main things – expertise, passion, and an interested audience in your topic.

    • Expertise – If you have more experience and knowledge than your target audience (even if you’re just ONE step ahead of them) you’re already an expert.
    • Passion – Pick a topic you could talk about for hours. Your passion will make you radiate with excitement and sell with ease. Your audience will be able to relate and connect with you.
    • Interested Audience – Conduct market research find out what kind of content your ideal customer is CRAVING

    Market Research

    Pain PointA pain point is a specific problem they are experiencing. What do they struggle with? What challenges are they facing? What’s keeping them awake at night? What would make your life or business easier right now?

    Solution or TransformationWhat change or transformation do they want to achieve? Why is now the right time to make a change? What solutions can you offer that your competitors can’t? If they could have anything what would it be?

    Fears and ObjectionsWhat objection do they need to overcome? Is there anything holding them back from achieving their goals? What kind of negative experiences have they made in the past (bought a course that didn’t meet their needs, etc.)

    Here are 6 ways to get to know your audience better and validate your course idea:

    1. Send a survey to your email list to find out what their problems and pain points are
    2. Hop on a few Market Research Calls (15-20 min) with your ideal student
    3. Instagram– Use polls, question stickers, the quiz feature, or DMs to find out what they need
    4. Use Pinterest and Google Trends to find out what’s trending and successfully selling for others
    5. Join Facebook Groups to connect and interact with your ideal students – what are some common questions they have?
    6. Use Quora to find topics your potential students and readers are most interested in learning about

    Step 2 – Course Outline

    Start by reviewing your market research findings. What kind of transformation or result is your audience looking for? Brainstorm and write down EVERYTHING you can teach them related to your course topic.

    Now you can set up your course framework. How can your course get your student from A (where they are now) to B (their desired result)? Organize your brainstorm notes into modules and break them down into lessons. Map out the details and key concepts for each of them and keep track of all supplemental materials you need to create.

    Let’s say you want to create a course about Content Marketing. You break down your course into 5 modules and each module has 3 lessons. Your outline for Module 1 could look like this:

    Module 1: Content Marketing Basics
    Goal: Comprehensive Overview of Content Marketing to emphasize importance

    • Lesson 1: What is Content Marketing? – To Create: Tutorial Video, 3 worksheets with prompts to fill in
    • Lesson 2: Why every business needs a Content Marketing Strategy – To Create: Case Study to follow along
    • Lesson 3: The most important Content Resources you will need – To Create: PDF Guide with Resource Overview

    Keep your course as SIMPLE as possible to maximize your students’ success and completion rate. Decide which content is essential to achieve the desired course outcome and get rid of everything else (or include it as bonus material).

    Step 3 – Course Content

    The most exciting step! Time to record your videos, design worksheets, create training slides, write content and decide how you want your course to be delivered. 

    Choose a Format

    A combination of videos, slides (presentation to follow along), and screencasts (recording your screen) is the most popular way to create online course content but there are many other formats such as worksheets, audio files (e.g. meditation), or text.

    Content Recommendations

    Your course will likely be a mix of a few formats so when planning what to create consider these resources:

    Course Slide DeckStructure your course content visually with slides and bullet points. You can screencast your slides with tools like Screencast-O-Matic while explaining each course concept for easy and appealing video footage. 

    Course Guidebook and WorkbookSummarize your course content in a Course Guidebook so your students can follow along. Create all checklists, worksheets, and other supplemental materials with a Course Workbook.

    Course Welcome GuideA Course Welcome Guide is a great way to get your students organized and excited once they purchase your course. You could include it in your purchase confirmation email or as a “Read me first” section on your course platform.

    Facebook GroupIf you offer an exclusive Facebook Group as part of your course you can design Facebook Group Banners and Prompt templates to create structure and encourage engagement.

    Content and Slide Design Tips

    TextAvoid lots of text when creating your slides as it can be overwhelming and makes it harder for your students to follow along. Instead, break it up with bullet points and reveal your text progressively to keep your audience engaged and interested.

    Font and SizeStick with one font for headlines and one font for your body text. When sizing your fonts, keep in mind that the text should be large enough to be read easily.

    ConsistencyUse the same or related typography and colors across all your slides. Curated Stock Photo collections (similar images with the same main theme or colors) are great for cohesive imagery.

    Step 4 – Course Promo and Selling

    Your Launch Strategy

    While you’re developing and creating your course keep in mind that you need a launch strategy to sell your course. To have a successful launch, get your audience engaged and excited by building up your Know, Like, and Trust factor BEFORE selling. Provide them with valuable content, share your knowledge generously, and show up as an authority. 

    This process will take some time so make sure you start this process before launching your course. Here are some ideas to create hype around your new course:

    • Send regular value-filled emails to your email list
    • Create lead magnets and freebies to capture course leads
    • Publish blog posts and resources related to your course
    • Host a free webinar or masterclass to promote your course, generate new leads, and show your expertise.
    • Create targeted promo and launch graphics on social media (mockups, course details, quotes, stories, etc.).

    Pro Tip – Utilize Pinterest Pins to promote your webinar and course frequently. The lifespan of a pin is the longest of any social media platform so create 5-10 different pins every month for your long-term promo strategy. 

    Selling your Course

    Sales Page – The course sales page has all the details about your online course. The structure of your sales page is very important to convert visitors into buyers and should include the following:

    • the problem you’re solving
    • who the course is targeting
    • Course Mockups to showcase and promote everything that’s included in your course
    • details about the structure and modules of your course
    • testimonials and case studies
    • an overview of everything that’s included
    • a short bio about yourself and your expertise
    • FAQ’s and lots of Call-To-Action buttons
